Description

This is an antique, 'Officer of the Watch' telescope dating to the latter part of the 19th century.

Inscribed on the draw tube 'Ross, London, No.29975, Sold by Robinson & Co., Singapore', this achromatic telescope is typical of the type used on board ship in the late 19th century.

Ross, based in London, were a respected name in optics and produced quality scientific instruments. Robinsons, a pioneering and leading department store in Singapore.

Made from German silver, a copper, zinc and nickel alloy, this telescope retains it's original 'ox blood' red leather sleeve with braided twists at either end with the stitching in good order. The draw tube slides easily with all tubes dent free.

The optics are in good order providing a clear, sharp image and benefit from a retractable sun shade. The swivel eye cover and lens cap absent as usual.
