Description

This is an antique telescope dating to c.1880.

Raised on a mahogany tripod with brass mount this impressive two and a half inch refractor carries the name of Wood (late Abraham & Co) of Liverpool – Abraham being a respected name synonymous with high quality optical instruments and exhibiting at the 1851 London International Exhibition.

The single draw tube extends smoothly and is focused with the knurled wheel moving the rack and pinion fine adjustment mounted internally to the main tube. The tubes are in good order, complete with lens cap with the main tube retaining it's original sleeve aged with a patina to be expected in an instrument of this age.

The optics are in good order offering an achromatic object lens and a crisp, bright and sharp image that benefits from an additional sun shield.

A super example and a handsome instrument.
