Description

A very elegant set of eight antique Victorian mahogany dining chairs comprising six side chairs and a pair of carvers. Crafted in solid mahogany each chair features shaped square backs with finely carved splats including a central urn motif flanked by pierced supports with leaf detailing. The quality of the carving and timber is immediately apparent and gives the set a refined decorative presence.
The carvers are well proportioned with gently shaped arms and a comfortable stance designed to sit at the heads of a dining table. The side chairs mirror the design creating a cohesive and balanced look across the set.
Chairs of this type were made for formal dining rooms in the late 19th century where symmetry and craftsmanship were key. The open backs allowed light to pass through keeping interiors feeling airy while still showcasing skilled carving.
The seats have been newly upholstered in a neutral patterned fabric which works well with both traditional and modern interiors making the set ready for use.
Condition report
Very good antique condition with minor age related marks to the frames. Structurally solid throughout. Newly upholstered seats in excellent condition.
