Description

A 12" Celestial Globe mounted on a walnut stand with turned legs and stretchers. The globe, contained in a brass meridian circle, is marked "Newtons New and Improved on which all the stars and nebulae and clusters contained in the extensive catalogue of the late F Wollaston FRS are accurately laid in their right ascensions and declina having been readjusted for for the year 1820 by W Newton".

Francis Wollaston FRS (1762-1823) was a philosopher and Jacksonian professor at The University of Cambridge.
The height of the globe on its stand is 18.5" (47 cm) and the diameter is 17" (43 cm)
