Description

A pair of comic hunting prints by the caricaturist John Leech. They are a good size, each measuring 74 cm x 54 cm (frame size 77 cm x 57 cm) and each bearing his signature on the bottom left.

John Leech (1817-1864) was a British caricaturist and illustrator, best known for his work on "Punch". His critical, yet humorous cartoons on the Crimean War helped shape public opinion towards heroism, warfare and Britain's role in the world. He also achieved fame as the first illustrator of Charles Dickens 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol.

His caricatures of the 'hunting set' are well depicted here.
One is entitled "A frolic home after a blank day". The other is "Don't Move there we shall clear you"
