Giant Staffordshire Blue & White Jug

Description

A huge Staffordshire transfer printed octagonal jug in the Bo Peep pattern. The jug is 20" (51 cm) high and 24" (61 cm) from the lip to the handle. Very heavy to lift when empty, it would be impossible when filled. It must, therefore, have been made as a display piece, a trade sample, or a demonstration of the technique of the pottery. It's rarity would make it the centrepiece for any blue & white collection. We have never seen another like it in almost sixty years of trading and believe it could be unique. There are traces of restoration, though very hard to detect.

This is an astonishing piece of art from the Staffordshire potteries circa 1830.
