Description

A fine late 19th century Russian silver gilt and bowenite paper knife bearing Faberge hallmarks. It is mounted with ornate winged coronette and double sided sovereign's head on the handle and mask head to the top of the blade. The knife measures 21.5 cm from the top of the handle to the end of the blade. It comes with its original, rather dishevelled, box.

The hallmark bears the initials AH, likely to be Albert Holmstrom (1876-1925), son of August Homstrom (1825-1903). Both father and son were Finnish and were master craftsmen at the Faberge workshops.
