Description

A large cream glazed and black slip trailed stoneware charger with \"America\" in letters plus stars on the outer rim, and an American eagle in the centre. The charger has a diameter of 17\" (43 cm) and is 3.25\" (8 cm) high.

Wetheriggs Pottery was near Penrith in Cumbria and began in 1860 when John Schofield and Margaret Thorburn moved to the site from Stepney Bank Pottery in Newcastle. The steam engine used to drive the pottery machinery was restored in the 1990\'s by Fred Dibnah. Production has now ceased on the site, which was given Ancient Monument status in 1973.
