Description

A good size Smith's tabletop globe by George Philip and Son Ltd. The cartouche states "Smith's Terrestrial Globe showing all the Most Recent Discoveries. George Philip and Son Ltd, The London Geographical Institute, 32 Fleet Street, London EC".

The globe is surrounded by signs of the zodiac and stands on a platform with ebonised turned legs.

George Philip and Son were renowned for their production of atlases. maps and globes through much of the 19th century.

The outside measurements are 68.5 cm high x 43.5 cm diameter (27" x 17")

The condition is good with rubbing only to the zodiacal surround.
