Description

A simply gorgeous French Art Nouveau Cast Bronze and Mother of Pearl letter opener, c.1900. The handle is formed as a medallion with a cast profile head of a young woman depicting the elements of wind and fire. On one side she is facing a volcano and on the other is exhaling air with a dove in the background.

The medallion is supported on an Art Nouveau stylised iris and leaf stem in soft tones of green and russet over a mother of pearl blade. The bronze has a co-joined monogram "HB".

The length is 16.4 cm
