A Staffordshire 'Durham Ox' series pearlware oval dish, circa 1820 printed in underglaze blue with cattle and drover within a foliate border.

The plate is 32 cm (12.5") wide x 23 cm (9") high

The Durham Ox which became famous in the early 19th century was an early example of what became the Shorthorn breed of cattle. A carriage, drawn by four horses, was specially made to transport him around the country where he was exhibited to the public.
