Description

A large and rare Staffordshire model of an elephant in naturalistic colours standing on a white base with a gilt line. Apart from some slight wear to the gilt, this piece is in near perfect condition and stands 9.5" (24 cm) high x 11.5" (29.5 cm) wide x 5" (13 cm) deep.

It is believed, though not corroborated, that this was modelled on 'Jumbo' the elephant belonging to Barnum's circus.
