Description

An English William IV period fusee bracket/table clock. A well detailed mahogany case with choice flame veneers. An arched top with brass inlays. A recessed base panel with brass edging. Brass fretted side panels with silk backing. Lions head side brass cast handles. A cast brass bezel with convex glass and standing on brass ball feet. An arched glass back door. A convex dial with 'moon' blued steel hands signed 'S Simson, Southampton'.

A quality single fusee mechanism of 8-day duration. A pendulum transportation lock and the original keys to the front bezel and back door. An old repair label inside the case from Southampton. Circa 1835.

Stephen Simpson of Southampton is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers & Clockmakers of The World' book as working from 1830-1839.
