Description

An attractive, and small Georgian hooded wall clock. A solid mahogany case with a large elaborated moulding to the flat top, a plain sliding hood with a break-arch glazed aperture to the front and shaped bracket sides to the carcass. It also has a full-length backboard. A small 5" wide break arch silvered and engraved dial. Roman hour numerals and inner divided minute track with half hour diamonds. A single blued steel hand. The corners and the arch have a floral design engraving encompassing the bordered maker's name cartouche bearing "G. Buckmaster, ROYSTON" underlined with scrolls. The centre tabbed alarum disc has outer Arabic hour numerals and an inner divided track. The alarm function has been disconnected in the past. A 30 hour, rope driven mechanism. Circa 1830.

George Buckmaster of Royston is recorded in Loomes' Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working circa 1828 - 1840.
