Description

​A very impressive early Victorian period mercury wheel barometer. A larger proportioned mahogany case with choice flame veneers. A carved pediment and applied carved case detailing. The original set knob below the dial. A very well engraved thermometer scale with a large bore original mercury thermometer and convex glass. A lovely pair of decorative dial hand indicators. A well engraved main dial signed 'W Johnson 34 Hatton Garden Lane'. An engraved crest to the dial centre marked 'Providentia et Labore' Circa 1845.

W Johnson of Hatton Garden, London is recorded in Banfields 'Barometer Makers and Retailers' book as working at 34, Hatton Garden Lane from 1841-1867. He is noted as working from 1830.
