Description

A fine quality and impressive London Georgian longcase clock. A burr walnut case with crossbanding to the arched trunk door and base panel. A double plinth distinctive to London area clocks. Glass side hood apertures and brass capped hood columns. Fretwork arched panels to the hood pediment. An arched brass and silvered dial signed to the centre 'James Bush Tower Street London'. A strike/silent lever to the arch and date and seconds dials. Brass cased weights. A quality 8-day duration, 5 pillar mechanism striking the hours on a bell. Circa 1735.


James Bush of London is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working from 1720. He was admitted to the Clockmakers company in 1729.
