Description

The sculpture is by Charles Anfrie (1833-1905), a French sculptor active in Paris. He exhibited at the Salon between 1883 and 1895. His work included both military subjects and figures of young women and children, and he also designed medals.

What Year: While a precise year of creation for Espérance isn't definitively stated in the search results, Charles Anfrie was most active in the late 19th century. Given his exhibition period and the Art Nouveau style sometimes associated with his work (though Espérance leans more towards academicism), it's highly probable this sculpture was created sometime between the 1880s and the early 1900s. Many of his bronze works available at auction are dated to this period.

Where It Was Made: The sculpture was made in France, as Charles Anfrie was a French sculptor based in Paris. The bronze would have been cast in a French foundry of the time.
