19th Century Vienna Plaque Fruit Seller
Description
We are selling this wonderful quality porcelain plaque of a fruit seller in deep gilt wood frame. His original paintings displayed in art galleries around the world. This plaque gives a picture of a young fruit seller making a sale. The boy holds a basket, overflowing with grapes and what appear to be pears, as the girl carefully counts out her money to the young seller. A light from the left of the figures shines down upon them, bathing the girl in sunlight, and her companion in soft shadows. Although it is a realistic rendition of an everyday image, Murillo depicts in such a way as to romanticize the simple act of buying fresh fruit on the street.
Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (born late December 1617, baptized January 1, 1618 – April 3, 1682) was a Spanish Baroque painter. Murillo also produced a considerable number of paintings of contemporary women and children. These lively, realist portraits of flower girls, street urchins, and beggars constitute an extensive and appealing record of the everyday life of his times.
Measuring 14 inches x 16 inches (overall frame size), plaque measuring 6 x 8 1/2 inches and in lovely original condition appropriate for age. Please see all photos as they form part of description.
