Meryl Watts (1910-1992) was born in Blackheath, London and attended Blackheath School of Art. After her fathers' printworks was bombed in 1940, the family left London and rented a house in Borth-y-Gest, Porthmadog, where they had spent many happy family holidays in previous years. It was here, that they became friends with the Williams-Ellis family of Portmeirion.
Most of her known artwork is from the period when she lived in Wales, the 1940's-1969. She was best known for her skills as a woodcut artist, although she also produced scultures and paintings in both oil and watercolour.
Meryl exhibited at The Royal Academy and all around the world, for The British Council.
