Description

Ishikawa Kinichiro travelled to England in 1899 to study painting at the Royal Academy of Art. He first went to Taiwan in 1907 and taught at the Taipei Japanese School and Taipei Normal School for nine years. In 1921 he was invited again to teach at the Taipei Normal School where he stayed for a further nine years. During his tenure there Ishikawa played an important role in the development of Western painting in Taiwan and influenced many of Taiwan's leading artists including Li Meishu, Li Shiqiao, Li Zhefan, Lan Yinding, Hong Ruiling and Zhang Wanchuan. Ishikawa was an accomplished artist and his watercolours are internationally much admired.
