Description

Stunning is all we can say.
A late 18th Century Windsor armchair originating from the Thames Valley. Constructed from yew wood with elm seat, circa 1775 - 1800.
Bernard D Cotton's book "The English Regional Chair" shows an indetical example and states that this is a rare chair or "less commonly made" (see figure TV19, page 46) with spindles alone without a central splat to the back support and is in effect a transitional chair from the earlier comb back armchairs to the later hoop back form.
This fine example is a gorgeous colour and is very elegant benefiting from shaped arm supports, cabiole legs to the front and crinoline stretcher.
This is a chair that should not be missed.
Condition - completely original too aside the ends of the pad feet which have been re-tipped in yew wood by our very own restoration workshop.
