Victorian mahogany 2 part military chest


Officers on campaign would have a chest like this to carry their personal clothing etc. The chests are brass bound for protection during the rigors of constantly being transported.
This Victorian mahogany military chest is made in parts for ease of transportation. Each half originally would have had a packing case made of pine that each section would fit into to allow it then to be packed onto a mule. Hence why the handles were flush to the carcass, so that they would not snag when being slid into their individual carrying case.
