This Victorian inlaid walnut Davenport desk is the high-quality version of a Davenport desk, made circa 1870.
These Davenports when they have a door enclosing the drawers usually are more desirable and of better quality. It would of course cost more to make the door than to just having the drawers showing.
It is beautifully inlaid with decorative motifs.
The side door opens to reveal a bank of mahogany lined drawers.
The slope is inset with a red leather inset writing surface, to the top lifting lid with the stationery box enclosed. A brass pierced gallery on the top.
