In the Victorian era parlour games as well as more sophisticated games were played to while away the hours in the evenings.
Backgammon became a popular game to play with family and friends, this brought the requirement for the best quality pieces to show off the owner’s success and wealth to their family and friends. Hence these top end tables were placed in important areas of the home.

The top folds over to reveal the magnificent boards for backgammon, draughts, and chess.
Under the playing surface is a drawer to store cards, counters etc.
