Description

Victorian mahogany dwarf wardrobe
This Victorian mahogany dwarf wardrobe was made circa 1860.
It was sold by T.Willson whose premises were at 68, Great Queen Street, London.
Whilst he traded as a furniture broker, he also was a cabinetmaker. Pieces of furniture bearing Willson’s trading stamp are always of the best quality with fine timber.
This wardrobe has a double cupboard in the centre, now fitted with a hanging rail.
To each side of the cupboard is a bank of drawers all fitted with their original segmented turned mahogany handles.
Conveniently this wardrobe was made in multiple pieces therefore is easy for delivery and to move around your home.
Imagine how much you can store in this useful item of furniture. Not only is it wonderful to look at but also it provides fantastic storage space.
It is easy to forget in these days of the diesel engine how much effort went into delivering a piece of furniture like this one in the 19thc. It would have taken hours if not days to get this to a home in the suburbs or further afield. It would have taken 2 porters as well as horses and wagons, and then perhaps also using a steam train.
