Description

Victorian walnut inlaid shaped loo table
This Victorian walnut inlaid shaped loo table was made in the later part of the 19th century.
This was made in one of the best workshops of the day where quality came before price.
The table stands on an impressive solid walnut cluster column base with 4 out swept legs with square toes applied with superb carved patera, with the original brass wheel castors under.
The top is inlaid with delicate box wood lines and panels of inlaid motifs.
This Victorian table has many uses, it could be placed in the centre of a hall, used as a dining table or used in a large bay.
Wherever it is placed it will look fantastic and will get many admiring glances and complimentary comments.
Loo was a Victorian parlour game (from the word Lanterloo) and was mentioned in books by Jane Austen. Loo tables were used in the parlour where visitors and family would sit and play the game. As it was to be used in a room where visitors were to sit often the owner of the home would like to show their success and wealth and so they would invest in the best quality they could afford to show their guests friends and families how well they had done. The original owners of this table obviously had been very successful.
