Victorian oval walnut coffee table
This Victorian oval walnut coffee table was made circa 1860.
The large oval top with good burr walnut laid on the surface.
The base with the solid walnut cabriole leg supports coming off the turned column.
Formerly a full height loo table, this table was reduced in height to make this coffee table. Coffee tables were a 20thc. design as people’s way of living changed from the formal style of living in previous times. Therefore, coffee tables were never thought of.
This left a gap in the market and so people who love lovely antique furniture required tables to suit the purpose, hence these being made.
