Description

Georgian walnut bureau
This Georgian walnut bureau was made circa 1820 when George III was on the throne.
As it is made in walnut, it makes this a desirable piece, walnut is usually seen as the prestige timber for such a desk to be constructed in.
The walnut is of the figured variety and the veneers are laid vertically on the fall, which makes an interesting design. Around the fall and the drawers are line inlays, they also have moulded leading edges.
The bureau is fitted 4 full width graduated drawers with pierced brass handles.
The pull out supports for the fall are each side of the top drawer, once they are pulled out the fall lifts forward and then rests upon these. The fall has an inset tooled leather writing surface.
Once the fall is open it reveals the interior, which has a series of drawers to each side of the interior cupboard door. All with the line inlay into the walnut and the arrow head brass drawer pulls.
The bureau stands on bracket feet.
A Georgian walnut bureau is a special piece to have in your home, not only do you have the lovely look of the honey walnut to the exterior, but you have the double wow once the fall is open and you get to see the lovely interior. Now in our modern homes we have lap tops and ipads they can be used and stored and worked at easily in these bureaus.
