Description

Set of 4 Antique Yew wood Windsor armchairs
This Set of 4 Yew wood Windsor armchairs, would have been made in the middle part of the 19thc.
Of fantastic colour, this set of 4 chairs have turned solid yew front legs, and end on a ball hoof.
All of these are armchairs have the delightful feature of the curved crinoline stretchers. The stretchers were called this, as it is said that it was so that the ladies crinoline dresses would fit underneath the chairs when they were sitting on the chair.
The central splat arm and hoop to the back have the eyes of the yew, that sets yew apart from the standard ash and elm versions.
Yew is always the most desirable timber on such a chair, as it gives a colour and patina other woods do not normally match.
The solid elm saddle shaped seats are well figured , and are very comfortable to sit on for a long period.
