Regency Mahogany 14+ Seat Extending Dining Table

Description
Regency mahogany 14+ seat extending dining tableThe Canford Cliffs dining table
Here we have this fine Regency dining table made of superb figured Cuban mahogany
The dining table, that extends on a sliding system of rails, has its 4 original leaves, to extend the table to sit 14+ comfortably
Normally a table of this period, stands on tripod columns, but this is a very rare design, where the legs are on turned supports with swept legs with the original brass paw castors at the toe. This system means that there is far less clutter around your feet when the table is in use.
Imagine the pleasure this table will bring you, either when it is not in use or when you are entertaining your family and friends.
This Regency mahogany dining table would have been made for an important house when first made, and would have been a custom made order not one of the peg.
The Cuban mahogany timber would have been sailed across from the Carribean, and then onwards across the Atlantic ocean as ballast in the depths of the sailing ship. Once it had arrived in Liverpool docks, it would have been unloaded by the dockworkers before being transported overland on horse and wagon to the timber merchants. There the cabinet makers would have chosen the best timber to be used on such a piece.
This table would have been made circa 1820 when Robert Jenkinson ( Lord Liverpool) was the Prime Minister, George IV had just ascended the throne, the Cato conspiracy to kill the Cabinet, had been thwarted , and HMS Beagle had been launched which would later take Charles Darwin on his scientific voyage. The table has lived through many of major world events and mankind’s progress to flight and the new information age.
