Description

Good mahogany 'triple pad top' bracket from the early 19th century, late George III period, signed 'Thomas Strange, Kingston', c.1815.
The attractive mahogany arched case has three brass bound pads to the top with a brass carrying handle fitted the central pad. The fretted brass panels beneath the convex dial, brass fish scale panels to the sides are all backed with silk to allow the sound of the striking bell pass through. The 8" painted convex dial with fine Roman numerals and blued steel hands is signed 'Thomas Strange, Kingston', and protected by a hinged brass bezel fitted with convex glass. The clock sits on brass ogee bracket feet beneath the moulded plinth.
The substantial 8 day double fusee five pillar movement is fitted with an anchor escapement and strikes the hour on the centrally fitted bell.
