Description

'The Cape and Its Story' by Mary Douglas, c.1902. Published by T. Nelson & Sons.

Tree calf binding. Stanmore Park coat of arms to the front board and its motto, 'In deo confido et persevero' ['I trust in God and persevere']. Stanmore Park Preparatory School established in the former Drummond Estate created around 1880 and closed in 1929. Its headmaster from 1901 to 1929 was the Reverend Vernon Royle, a former Lancashire and England Cricketer. The bookplate to the pastedown has been neatly cut and removed, presumably as it contained Vernon Royle's signature.

Some wear to the front board hinge with a little movement but it remains firmly attached. Gilt stamped decoration to board edges and spine.

Marbled endpapers. Some spotting to preliminary pages but otherwise the pages remain clean, bright and free from inscription.
