A 19th century portrait of a seated gentleman and his dog, possibly Scottish School. Label verso for William Christie Watch & Clock Maker, Laurencekirk, Scotland (1816-1900) the sitter may be affiliated with this maker.

The work is finely painted with exceptional attention to detail throughout. There are paint losses to the extremities and fading throughout. Nonetheless it remains a good decorative work.
