Description

A wonderfully charismatic 19th century oil on canvas portrait of a gentleman with drapes to the background. Whilst in a dour position within both the seat and composition itself, the sitter's expression is rather wry.

The work is housed in a giltwood frame which has some knocks and signs of wear but generally presents well. A handwritten note is verso behind a polythene covering - largely illegible but those parts that are decipherable indicate it to be a prayer or prose in memoriam.
