Description

A 19th century gilt gesso pier mirror by Charles Nosotti, c.1870.

The arched and shaped mirror plate is surmounted by a foliate finial, flanked by a guilloche border above a shaped shelf raised on an acanthus support.

The mirror shows historic repairs to the wood at the rear and has some small areas of cracking commensurate with age but remains structurally sound. The mercury mirror has lovely patches of sparkle to the edges (please see photographs). The mirror bears the original maker's label of 'C. Nosotti to the rear'.

Charles Nosotti, originally from Milan, settled in Westminster London around 1831. He exhibited at the London exhibition in 1862.

A very attractive mirror by an increasingly scarce maker.
