Description

A French 'Globe Terrestre' by the renowned 19th century geographer and map publisher J. Forest of Paris. Scale 1/80,000,000.

In addition to land masses and their borders, the chromolithographed gores show the oceans with their currents, with steamship routes in red with ports of arrival and departure. The globe is mounted on its original ebonised stand with brass acorn finial.

There is an historic repair to the globe near the 'Seychelles' (please see images). Generally, the globe displays well with an attractive 'time-worn' patina throughout and lovely proportions small enough to sit quietly on a desk, yet large enough to be a statement on a shelf or mantle.
