Description

This rare 1830s religious ceramic plaque features a bold scriptural message from John 14:15: “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” Typical of early 19th-century English pottery, it displays black transfer print on a cream-glazed surface, framed by a delicate floral garland.
These devotional plaques were commonly found in Victorian homes, especially among Wesleyan Methodist and evangelical households.
This fine example of religious antique ceramics was almost certainly fashioned at the Sheriff Hill Pottery in Gateshead, between 1833-1838. Similar to, but larger than Sunderland plaques (see separate listing for a Sunderland example) and much rarer, this piece offers both aesthetic appeal and spiritual resonance. Perfect for collectors of Christian antiques, early English pottery, or religious home décor. A highly desirable and decorative antique plaque with timeless biblical inspiration and strong historical value.
Condition is A1, with no restoration, chips or cracks. Any flaws were at the time of manufacture and include glaze bubbles, imperfect paint coverage etc, all part of the appeal
