Description

Circa 1780. A stylish walnut and yew-wood Austrian bureau bookcase, the top section with classic broken architectural pediment with dentilled detail on the front and sides with an interesting motif in the center, the front with a large arch door flanked by three drawers in walnut and yew with various bandings and with three drawers beneath, all with brass flower petal back plates and cast brass drops in the form of acorns. The central door with an elegant pierced escutcheon opens to reveal two drawers and a secret compartment, all the drawers with similar inlay, the flap with three panels and lifting handles on the flap, opens to reveal a simple and fitted interior with a bank of four drawers with turned knob handles, the base section with three full length drawers with inlaid panels similar to the flap, beneath the bottom drawer there is a carved moulding with an interesting pull-out section in the center to be used as a foot rest, all resting on four square tapering feet. The bookcase comes in two sections and has great colour and patination.
