Each circular mirror plate within an ebonised and reeded border, enclosed by a ball-encrusted edge with a pair of gilded brass candle branches and foliate pendant with carved pineapple which was the Georgian symbol for welcome. One mirror is inscribed to the reverse, 'Mr Trotter of Morton Hall'. Mortonhall, a mansion house in in the southern outskirts of Edinburgh, was built by the Trotter family in 1769. The architect was John Baxter and its notable interiors the work of Thomas Bonnar.
