Description

Circa 1870, mid Victorian carved giltwood mirror. On top is a very stylish pediment carved with foliate designs, swags and tails, and flower heads. Beneath this is a very elaborate frieze with various carvings. On either side are columns which are surmounted by dragons and have vines wrapped around from the top down. On the base are acanthus leaves and scroll carving. There is beading around the mirror itself, including egg and dart, flower heads and reeded carved gesso. The mirror retains its original patination and colour. At the base is an ebonised plinth. Original plate glass and back.
