Description
Circle of Marie Geneviève BOULIARD (1772-1819)An attractive late 18th or early 19th century French School portrait, painted in the style of Marie Genevieve Bouliard. Marie specialised in bust length of a similar size. She was a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Greuze whose soft gentle style is evident in this portrait.
Condition
In common with most early paintings, this painting has not escaped the hands of restorers over the centuries. The original canvas has been laid on to board probably around 100 years ago. There are small areas of touching in and a scar on her neck. There is deep ingrained dirt that requires more than a light surface clean to eradicate.
The frame has repairs and has been reguilded.
