Follower of Berthe Morisot Late 19th Century French Impressionist Period Oil StudyAn intriguing oil study of a woman sitting reading . The painting dates to the latter part of the 19th century, is French in origin but unfortunately unsigned. The style is similar to that of the leading Impressionist Berthe Morisot. The use of unprimed canvas, underdrawing, rapid application of paint and subject matter are all reminiscent of her work. This is by a good hand and more research is required.
Condition.
The canvas has been lined and mounted on a new stretcher. There is evidence of repairs to a number of areas with associated touching in. Minor scuffs and scratches. The painting requires good lighting to fully appreciate. Presented in a carved Montparnasse frame later in origin.
