Fine Roman Gladius, Mid 1st C AD
Still retaining the bronze guard and pommel knob.
Rare survivor in great condition.
Found in the River Witham, nr.Lincoln, May 1947.
Lincoln (Roman Legionary Fortress) was garrisoned by the Ninth Legion Hispana 58-72 AD, then Second Legion Adiutrix 71-77 AD.
This gladius falls exactly into these dates.
