Description

A very attractive Staffordshie figure which dates to the mid Victorian period. It depicts a red and white dog with a separate front leg and gilded collar, with a young lady on its back, and with a bird on her shoulder. The dog is placed upon a floral plinth which has a gilded band around its base.
These Staffordshire flatbacks were used as decoration on the mantelpiece or window ledge, and the children were thought to be those of Queen Victoria.

To the top of the child's head is 9 inches or 23 centimeters and the width of the base is 5.5 inches or 14 centimeters.

The condition is good for a piece of pottery which is approximately 170 years old. There is some flaking to the edge of the plinth and rubbing to the gilding, these can be seen in the photographs. The head of the bird may be a replacement judging by the slightly darker colour, but if so, it has been repaired very professionally.

UK post with quality packaging is £10.00.
