Description

A rare and beautiful brass trivet made by Longfields circa 1800. The top of the trivet has the design of a lyre or harp and is made from old "warm" brass.
Different from the normal trivets in that it has the original "pig" or "Iron Slug" underneath the platform. This was used to hold a hot iron or hot coal to keep the contents of the pan on top of the trivet warm. The "pig" is accessed by the hinged brass lyre which can be raised, please see the photographs.
The handle is made from a beautifully turned piece of ebonised wood, and is original.

The condition is very good, with only the expected marks gained from well over 200 years of use.

It measures 14.5 inches or 37 centimeters from the handle cle to the end of the platform and 4.75 inches or 12 centimeters high.
