Description

A lovely scissor type wick trimmer or candle snuffer made of iron, and dating to the last half of the 18th century.

It has a good pointed end, used for prodding the getting the wick out of the wax when it had solidified into it. This was also used for making the hole in the base of a candle for sitting it onto a pricket candlestick.

The scissor action does not have any wear or "give" to it and the three legs on which it stands are firm. The wick cutting edge is good as is the box into which the cut off wick is held.

It is pitted across the whole surface where in its day the ravages of rust has got to it. However this was some time ago and it is rust free and protected.

It is six and three quarter inches or seventeen centimetres from the tip to the handle.
