Seiko Precision 15-Jewel Pocket Watch Diaflex Shock Protection 1970s

This Seiko Precision 15-jewel pocket watch is fitted with a second-setting (hacking) mechanism, designed to allow precise time synchronization. When the crown is pulled out to set the time, a small internal lever moves into contact with the balance or the gear train of the movement. This action immediately stops the oscillation of the balance wheel, which in turn halts the seconds hand.
In this particular design, the mechanism is arranged so the seconds hand comes to rest exactly at the 60-second position (12 o’clock). This feature allows the user to synchronize the watch very accurately with an external time reference. For example, the user can pull the crown, wait until an official time signal—such as a radio or clock signal—reaches the start of a new minute, and then push the crown back in. The watch will then restart precisely at that moment, ensuring accurate timekeeping.
The watch is also equipped with Diaflex, Seiko’s proprietary shock-protection system. Diaflex strengthens the delicate balance staff and protects the pivots from damage caused by shocks or sudden movements. Combined with the 15-jewel movement, which reduces friction and wear, these features demonstrate Seiko’s focus on producing robust, precise, and highly reliable timepieces
