Description

Walnut Chest of Drawers, of excellent quality and proportions. This chest of drawers will date from the late Georgian period (circa 1820), with repairs, replacement veneers and handles around the 1900 date.

The top has well matched, quartered burr walnut veneers, with a cross banding and a herringbone inlaid surround. The centre has an excellent marquetry star.

The four graduated drawers have cross banding and herringbone inlay, which matches the top. The bottom, larger drawer, also has a marquetry half star, which reflects the design on the top. The replacement handles are in keeping with the style and period of the piece. All four locks work, and a key is supplied. The drawers sides and bottoms are of solid oak, with dovetailed joints.

The chest of drawers sits on bracket feet of excellent proportions. Each side panel also has a line of inlay towards the top.

This is a truly spectacular piece of furniture. Although it has had changes to the veneer, this does not detract from it, and only adds to its quality and ascetics. The french polish and wax finish are of excellent quality, and give the item a warm, orange glow.
