Description

The stuffed and mounted magpie perched on a naturalistic rocky outcrop under a good quality Victorian glass dome and raised on an ebonised plinth socle base survives preserved from the early to mid twentieth century.

One for sorrow,
Two for joy,
Three for a girl,
Four for a boy,
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret never to be told.

So the superstition goes that seeing one magpie constitutes as bad luck, but saluting to the magpie apparently counteracts this. We salute you, sir and why wouldn’t we you handsome chap you…
