Original Drawing Herbert Thomas Dicksee (14 June 1862 – 20 February 1942)

Large, stunning and atmospheric original drawing by Herbert Dicksee of a stag, to my knowledge it was never printed. Executed in charcoal and hi-lighted in white pastel.
Herbert Thomas Dicksee was a British painter best known for his sensitive depictions of hunting dogs, particularly Scottish deerhounds in the moors. He also portrayed more exotic animals, accurately rendering lions and tigers he observed at the London Zoo.

His main publisher was Klackmer of London and New York and the originals were mainly executed in oils. He first studied art at the Slade School where he won medals for painting and drawing from life, and also a Slade Scholarship.

Well over 300 of Dicksee's works were exhibited in various galleries - Fine Arts Society, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, Manchester City Art Gallery etc. but by far the majority at the Royal Society of Painters, Etchers and Engravers and the Royal Academy.
Prominence : This picture was purchased from the grandson of Herbert T Dicksee, the Rev D.T.M Service in 1983 by a previous owner
